My Subaru Legacy GT had severely warped rotors after a mere 30K miles and and I had brought my car to All American Automotive as I assumed the rotors were bad, considering the low mileage on my car and how I have been very mindful about checking the brake pad thickness. After verifying the rotors were in fact warped, Pat explained how this is very common with Japanese performance cars because of how the rotors are engineered to be light for fuel economy and therefore marketing greenwashing rather than for longevity. When I consider the energy required to make steel I shudder to think how someone who purports to be eco-minded would make this call, but I digress. After replacing them with better grade but still reasonably priced rotors I found that after 9 months they were already starting to warble and I brought the car back assuming they had already warped. Sigh. Much to my surprise, He replaced them with the more expensive rotors that had features to help better prevent the warping in the future, and only charged me the difference in the part price! This is the kind of treatment that has kept me a customer of AAA for over 6 years and through 2 cars. I would stick my neck out to say this is a great shop with skilled and trustworthy people and that Pat is a man of integrity and runs his shop in kind.

As I write, my car is with All American Automotive. Not being sure what was wrong, I just asked them if they could take a look. First was quoted 157.00 to have a look. Then a moment later 172.00 to have a look. Later that evening, cleaning out my purse, I find the paper I had signed before leaving my car with them. It says the agreed upon estimate is $345. I had assumed I was signing for 172.00. Hope there is a misunderstanding...and it isn't that they charge $345.00 just to see if they can figure out what may be going wrong. I will follow up when I find out what happened.6/21/10 Went to All American Automotive this morning. Brought a friend with me who has worked on his own Jeeps for years and who claimed that even the $172.00 I was quoted on Friday to look under the hood originally was "outrageous B.S." He also nearly had a stroke when he saw the invoice I had unwittingly signed that read $345.00. Patrick, who had written up the invoice, was not in when I arrived at about 8:20 AM, but a man named Jerry talked to me. Jerry said that the $345.00 had been a quote for the work that they had intended to do on the vehicle and he said that I had agreed to such a price. My invoice that I signed though only says check this and that. It doesn't say to fix this or that. And there is no way I could've agreed to $345.00. I barely make that in a week. Patrick was a really pleasant fellow to talk to about Wagoneers though. Whatever the misunderstanding was, I still am unsure of. Point is (and this is the happy part) my car was put back together in twenty minutes time, I was only charged labor--which was very reasonable, and AAA came and towed my beautiful Wagoneer back to my home garage with my friend's assistance. Icing on the cake--I was informed of several things going on with my car that needed to be addressed from the short assessment they were able to give my car in the short time it was there. Thank you, All American Automotive!
very cool guys who will actually work on a 1968 firebird and go out of their way to get it right. call them "caregivers" - nice.
Pat and his crew have taken really good care of me and my cars over the years. I have a 1986 Cadillac that still runs like it's brand new thanks to these guys. They give excellent recommendations on what needs to be fixed right away and what you can wait on which both my American Express card and I greatly appreciate. They also are well connected to various body shops and interior specialists in the city. They're not the cheapest in town, but they're the place to go if you want honest professional service that is actually worth what you're paying for it.
Pat is one of the best mechanics in San Francisco. I have been taking my cars to him ever since I moved here and I have had nothing but success with his work. He will not use cheap used parts and will tell you what he is going to do to help you. He will be more than happy to show you exactly what was done to the car and explain why it had to be done. The other guys that work there, Jerry, Pedro, and Hector all work very hard to get repairs completed efficiently and without delay. I highly recommend All American Automotive.
