I just got my smog check done at A-1 Smog & Repair (1998 Honda Civic). What could be easier? I pulled in, they took care of me right away and in 15 minutes I was on my way home. All for $40 and that includes the certificate and electronic transfer fees. That's the best price I've seen around here.I'm no fan of this madatory smog check thing (come on, how many Hondas fail anyway) but unfortunately we don't have a choice thanks to our idiot politicians.
Wow, $40 for smog on my 99 Honda, including the certificate?!? Score!!I received one of those, "Smog check required @ Test-only stations" from the DMV, meaning you can't take it to any smog/gas station. You have to take it to a designated shop, approved by the State. I went onto the State website and located 7 of them for 95035. A-1 Smog was one of them, I called the other places around (main on Main street) Everyone else seemed to be charging $50 (maybe not even including the certificate) and when I called A-1, they charge $40 for EVERYTHING (certificate and sending it to the DMV for you) They close at 5pm. I called and asked if coming 4:15pm was too late and he said no. the guy was nice & pleasant on the phone and in person. I didn't get his name, maybe he's the owner, because he was sitting at the front counter. Got there, no waiting, pulled up, took my backpack out to read some books; in the middle of it, he told me that my front tire was going flat & might have a nail in it, so he put in air for me so I can drive to a tire place & get it fixed. I thought that was super nice of him to notice and help me out, cause I don't think I would have known - so extra 2 stars for him on that. Then I made some calls for arrangements to get my tires fixed. Before I could sit down & finally open my book to read, he was done & my car passed. I think that was less than 20mins. I was super relieved as I drove away because A1's quick turnaround allowed me to drive to my tire place & get my tire fixed before it closes.
This was the least painful, fastest, cheapest experience that I've had servicing my car in awhile! $40 and 10 minutes later, I was outta there!
This is a test-only station. But I took my car there couple times when test-only is not required and dude gave me a $10 discount.usually very fast and not a lot of people. I've been there about 5 times now and I'd never had to wait and was able to get out in 15-30 minutes. Then again I usually went a bit before lunch hour like around 11 or so I guess most ppl are still at work.no 5 star cuz dude's not all friendly and whatnot and he didn't laugh at my joke.. ha
