I had a great experience here too. Just like everyone else, it took only about 10 minutes. They were fast, friendly, and efficient. It was easy to get my car in and out of there. They had a small waiting room in the front. I brought a book with me but didn't really need it because it was over so quickly. I used to dread the smog-check notification in my DMV renewal every other year. But with a business like Clean Air Smog Check, it's no problem at all.Thanks, guys!
Man, two years comes around quickly, doesn't it? Still love these guys. After reading the very helpful posters in the Clear Air waiting area, I knew this time, however, that I would not pass. I remembered that my mechanic mentioned on a visit some time ago that the reason my check engine light was on was due to a worn out O2 sensor. I told this to the technician and do you know what he did? He ran the report so that it could be confirmed what was actually wrong for free. Then said to come on back when I get it fixed and he'll run the test. Awesome, right?!Went and had the O2 sensor replaced that day, drove right back to the test center and....dammit, I'm supposed to drive for fifty miles to reset the damn thing? Okay. Took the baby on the highway for about 42 miles at lunch the next day, went back to Clean Air, passed, and I'm gold for another two years.They are a great bunch of guys in there. I may not be back anytime within the next two years, though. A new to me car is itching to make its way into my pocketbook...
Was at a place with big signs and alot of car lifts.... but I didn't have an appointment and didn't want to wait 2 hours - so I drove around the block to 11th Street and saw a small shop with only a couple of cars inside so I took a chance. Here's my experience - first they made me feel comfortable and rested my nerves that my car was going to pass smog. They didn't say it would or give me the "Je ne sais quoi" but it's the way they addressed me and the car - is this too much writing for a smog test review??Anyway, they were professional and quick - no nonsense - nice guys (counter guy and smog technician) - charged me $10 more than the shop around the block but my time is worth definitely more valuable than $10.I was disappointed that their Tekken standup arcade game (though free) was not working. But the smog test went pretty quick and I probably would have got frustrated having to leave the fourth level.By the way Emmit (my car) passed with clean air colors!
15 minutes total, mid-day with no appointment. Cost me $55. Waiting room had good magazines and free internet. The girl at the counter was very cute and looked me in the eye when I talked with her. Five stars.
This place is a quick and easy as everyone else has reviewed. Plus I get to go to Costco for a slice of pizza afterwards!Here a tip about dealing with the DMV: If you're lazy like me and go to get the required smog check after the DMV registration renewal deadline, you can avoid the late fees by paying the DMV online first. Then you can take your time to get the smog check. However you won't get your new registration sticker until you have done that.

my car didn't pass smog at Castro Smog (the Arco station on Castro and Market)I took it here for my second smog and they were professional fast and it passed. Don't go for cheap go for passing it will cost you less in the end.BMW Owners make sure your car is HOT when you smog !!!!
I have to agree with everyone else. Completely painless, friendly, and in and out in 15 minutes for 60 bucks.
Just rolled in there with my Toyota and I was out of there before I could read a couple of pages of a magazine I picked up. They have a waiting room full of magazines. Take your pick! Most likely you wont be there longer than 15 minutes if your car is in decent shape. So don't get too comfortable. I was out of there in under 10 minutes and the guys were really really nice. Thanks for the fast service. I was in a total rush too!Justin
These guys were the tightest. 5-10 minutes max, everybody was very friendly, even though my smog test failed because of a check engine light, the test was able to point out the problem and save me a bunch of money on diagnostics somewhere else. On top of that, the retest is free and I only need to pay for the certificate. How awesome is THAT?
they were very friendly and it took all of 15 minutes for the smog check. i planned to walk over to costco for a couple things and when i returned the car was all done. they also have a $20 off coupon on their website. i'll be going back for the next smog check in the future!
This place was great. The people were friendly and did the job fast, before I could finish paging through one of the magazines in their comfortable waiting room. I was also reminded to send in my car registration. Very helpful folks.

Fast and Friendly!!!Wow, Clean Air Smog Check was the place to go. I took my car in to get it's smog check and it took literally less than 20mins to get it done. Just called in to see if it was a good time and drove down and got it done in no time. Technicians are friendly and easy to talk to. One technician even asked me if I wanted a chicken nugget. Now I call that customer service. Anyhow, long story made short, I passed and I can now drive my car for another two years before I can come back here again. Not sure when the best time of day to come in is, but I went towards the afternoon and there was no waiting at all.
Weekend hours, super friendly fast and competent and a coupon? Does not get better.

As quick and painless as it gets (insert dirty joke here) 10-15 minutes. Friendly service and I was able to use their internet when my bb was acting up. Highly recommended.
these cats do their job and do it well, I actually didn't pass my smog due to a stupid check engine light that mean nothing, yet they were cool gave me the info I needed to take care of my business and then I came back and they took care of their business while I had a piece of pizza across the street. Very easy, no drama, just get in and get done, that is what I think you should expcect from a smog check center isn't it?
So I woke up at the crack of 6:30am so I could be at the smog center when they opened at 8 and wouldn't be late for work at 8:30. I showed up at 7:58, and waited until 8:23 when the smog check guy finally pulled in and opened up shop. So I waited for 25 minutes and was a little late for work..... BUT the clerk was friendly, the smog check took 7 minutes and it only cost me $50 cause of the wait. Not too shabby.

To Kathleen S, I too was unsure about the $10 misc, but found out it is a standard fee that CA charges (not the smog shop itself). Unfortunately, we live in a state that charges for everything!!!!

Even though my car failed it's Smog Check, it wasn't the center's fault. Service was fast and friendly. After the first No Pass they explained that they were going to let the car run a little bit longer to warm up more and then try running the test again. Cool. Despite their best efforts, however, my car failed a second time. Boo. But they didn't charge me the full price because my car failed the test, plus they gave me paperwork to come back after repairs were done and get the car re-tested for way cheaper than before. The tech also told me about some other options, including gov't aid to pay for repairs as well as the vehicle retirement plan, which pays you $1000 to scrap any car that fails its Smog Check. This is what I ended up doing--one less car!!--so I haven't had cause to go back since...but if I ever have a car in the future, this place will absolutely be my go-to for any Test Only Smog Checks.And don't forget to mention the coupon! I printed a coupon online and then managed to lose it on the walk from my office to my car (??), but the tech gave me the discount anyway, just for mentioning that I had HAD the coupon. This place rocks.
I waited a bit more than expected because of a spike in the line when i arrived (midday rush perhaps), but it moved pretty briskly and i had a decent read in the car so no biggie. The chap who dealt with me was very pleasant, and the check was completed in no time. i was chuffed that i had passed and the discount was applied before I had a chance to mention it. I think i came here a couple of years back and Ill def be back next time round.
Best experience I have ever had regarding SMOG certificate. I was in and out in 10 minutes. They had me filling out the forms while they started the testing.I highly recommend them and will always come back.

I went in @ 1130 on a Wed and was done within 20 minutes, no appt necessary. They gave me a special Internet price of $50, even though I hadn't seen the ad and hasn't asked for it. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and efficient. They even handed me the newest issue of Glamour magazine to read while I waited...how kind. Plus, they send an electronic copy of your certificate to the DMV so you can finish up online. I usually feel uncomfortable at car shops (sleazy men, scary men, etc) but I felt at ease here. Awesome!

Left at 9:20am back at 9:50am. That's some quick service. Staff was professional and seemed to be very nice. They honored my verbal coupon and gave my car back in less than 10 minutes, I had barely updated my status message on facebook via my iphone when they said your car is ready.Total was 59.95 with the coupon. Word.
Fast! Very Fast. Other people have said ten minutes, but I don't think it took that long. The price was what you'd expect (with the discount) and they got the job done with great service. Too bad Jiffy Lube can't be this good.

Wow, they were every bit as good as everyone said. Very friendly. I was in and out in eight minutes, including the time to pay my bill and climb back in my car. I went home and finished the registration with the DMV on line. I mentioned the coupon and I swear the guy was excited that he could give me the $20 discount. Unqualified recommendation.

this place is fantastic.I went to the shop on Fell & Divis that everyone recommends and they said my 94 Ford Explorer couldn't get smogged due to low rpm's. So I get an oil change and 2 weeks later take it to Clean Air.PRESTO! In and out in 10minutes!!!! lightning fast. Thorough and super friendly. No waiting. This place is the best.
