Getting a smog check done couldn't have been any easier, I was in/out in 20 min. A+++++ to Discount Smog Center for their excellent service.

I arrived at 8:45a to make sure I was the first one in line. Luckily, there were no other cars needing a smog check first thing this morning. Unfortunately, the owner was running late. I was referred here by a friend who also mentioned that the owner was 15 minutes late when he tried going first thing in the morning, too. They open at 9am, but don't be shocked if you have to wait 10-15 minutes extra.The service was quick and very friendly. I was greeted with a sincere "Good Morning!" and that instantly made me forget that I was waiting 15 minutes extra. I did receive an apology for the tardiness which was also very sincere. The waiting room is very simple. It totally reminded me of being in Vietnam with the tile floor and pastel colored walls. The room is very bare with just 4 chairs and the water cooler. You're not there for very long so it's not like you need or have time to watching anything if they had a TV. I did not see the negative reviews until I started writing this one. I had my GPS and my other deck in my car and had absolutely no issues with anything being taken. I will definitely be back for my future smog checks.
In and out in about 15 minutes. Smog check for $40 with coupon. The car passed. What more could you want, I mean it's a smog check.
Don't be scared by the looks of this place...I was. It may look like it's in shambles, but he's so friendly and quick. This is the fastest and most efficient smog place I've ever been to and his pricing is ridiculously cheap....under $50. Outrageous! I don't think I've ever paid less than $100. If you forget your DMV slip at home, don't worry, he uses your license plate to electronically send the information. I've been to other places where they refuse to transmit it without the DMV form. He saved me another trip home. Great service!
The guy who worked on my car was friendly and go the job done quick. My trip here was about 10 minutes. . Someone did mention previously that the someone stole his AC knob lever, but for my experience, the guy found a dollar that I left in my car and returned it back to me. Overall, great service!
Cheap and really quick with no BS. I personally could care less about the waiting room and at least he has a water cooler.

To me, a smog check is a smog check, and I'd rather pay less than more. I don't need a fancy waiting room with leather chairs, People magazine or a vending machine. Just a smog check, done quickly and professionally. So 5 stars to Discount Smog Center for offering a $40 smog check (using the coupon) in about 20 minutes on a Saturday afternoon, even with two customers ahead of me. The waiting room is small, no frills, but has chairs and a TV. You can see your car at all times. The guy working there is friendly. I'll go there again next time.
Tony Nguyen at Discount Smog Center in San Jose is the very best smog man in San Jose. I first went to him in 2008, after through shopping for the least expensive Smog Test Only station in San Jose. I drive an elderly Dodge Caravan, with 215,000+ miles. My van was profiled years ago for testing every year, so I've been to my share of smog stations. Tony's price was $50 (without a coupon) in 2008. Last year in a hurry, I forgot about Tony and went somewhere else and paid more. This year neighbors suggested a neighborhood smog station. Their price was $65. When my van failed testing with them they aggressively solicited to work on it, but could not or would not give me an estimate for what needed to be done. Needless to say they put me in a very bad mood. I looked in my thick file for the van and found Tony's repair order from 2008 and gave him a call and went there for him to retest it. His price was still just $50. My van failed again. Tony suggested replacing the catalytic converter. He suggested getting two estimates and provided business cards for two muffler shops. The one chosen actually installed two catalytic converters for only $150. The muffler shop found my cooling fan was not working. After I repaired that. I went back to Tony at Discount Smog Center another retest, and another failure. Tony and the muffler shop both suggested replacing the oxygen sensor and after I did that it PASSED! I did NOT have to send my van to the wrecking yard. Tony was always courteous and professional. There's no unnecessary waiting in his shop. Tony committed to helping me get my van to pass and stuck with me all the way with solid advice and encouragement. He ended up testing my van four (4) times and never even hinted at charging me more. I really do not think there is a better place to have a smog test done in San Jose than with Tony at Discount Smog Center.

Cant go wrong. Just a quick review to keep up the rating for this place.- 40 dollars smog check with the 10 dollar coupon (for 1999 VW) - quick service, 10 mins per car usually - Guy knew about after market stereo causing problems with on-board systems for VW and was his tips was useful to get test done- even had TV in waiting area to watch the NFL games
My car is officially old and I needed to do my very first smog check. Came here with a $10 coupon and got it done for $40. I waited less than 5 mins before I got my car serviced. I spent 10 mins in all and was out and on my way! The guy was friendly, professional and quick, with no scams!

All the other reviews seem to be 5 stars. I don't give 5 star reviews of anything unless they are really amazing -- there would have to be something pretty special to get 5 stars for a smog check. I got a quick smog check with no wait. The guy working there (only employee?) was nice. I brought a coupon for $10 off from http://smogtips.com as someone else mentioned. If you bring a coupon, be sure to present it at the beginning and not after the smog check is done. He was actually going to give me $5 off even though I didn't ask for it and hadn't shown him the coupon yet. The main reason I went here (besides the coupon, which made it like $4 cheaper than the other place I called) is that they were open until 6pm and said they would let me come in as late as 5:45. It's nice that the price they advertise includes all the DMV related fees. Some places are not as honest about that.

Just went by today and got all three of my cars smogged. Very quick and efficient service and nice guy. My third car just barely failed on the first try so he happily did it again and I barely passed! Brought in the coupon and he charged me $40 for each of the cars! Great deal, great service! Highly recommended and I will be going here for all my future smog checks.

Only HeSaid:How simple and easy was this? I called to verify the price ($50.00), didn't need to make an appointment, drove over, and waited 5-10 minutes while someone else's car was being tested. Then, mine went in, and I waited about 10 minutes at most. The waiting room was relatively clean, had several chairs, a TV, and with the doors open had a great breeze. The online coupon was accepted (other reviews have the website), and I saved $10, for a grand total of $40.00 even, including the electronic trasmittal to the DMV, and a copy of the test results! Phong was super pleasant, seemed very honest, and was very careful with the cars he was checking. I highly recommend Discount Smog Center for your next Smog Test Only!Oh, yeah...my baby passed her test, too! No polluntants here! :-)

"Speedy Gonzales" Wow, I was amazed how fast this person is. There were 3 cars, one he was finishing up. He had two more to do. I had to wait about 40 minutes total, this is with him doing my car as well. I saw the extra coupon for 10 dollars off on http://www.smogtips.com I could've had my smog done for 40 bucks and in 40 minutes, but this guy was all work no play. He seriously did every car in 15 minutes or less. So I say he deserved the extra 10 dollars for handling all these cars so fast. The wait time isn't like an hour like how I find it in most places where you want a cheap price, it's fast and speedy. And if you give him a call in advance and tell him you're coming, he will hold a spot for you in line for you... Who does this? Discount Smog Center!
