With three older cars in the family, I have to bring at least one of them in for a test every year. Every time I've been here it's been fast and cheap. $58 out the door for 1996 and newer cars. ($49.75+8.25 certificate) Anything 1995 and before is $68. ($10 extra for EVAP) That's probably one of the best prices I've seen to smog an older car. Other places charge will charge you anywhere from $80-$110 for the same thing. Another bonus is Ariya, the owner will let you leave your car there if you want to have lunch or go shopping in Chinatown.
It was the second time (in 3 years) that I accidentally ended up here for my smog check. I was in and out in 10 minutes. $58 for testing and certificate. Ariya, who runs the smog test operation (solo as far I can tell), is a nice, professional guy. Not sure what else to ask for in a smog center other than speed, courteousness and affordability, and this place has all three. Plus, if you pass through Oakland Chinatown -- Alamedans who take the Posey tube during their morning commute take special note -- the location could not be more convenient. It's located in the 76 gas station at the corner of Harrison and 8th St, right in front of you when you emerge from the tube.
