My wife and I have both taken our vehicles here for a smog inspection, and I have always been impressed by incredible service. It's difficult to find an honest mechanic, but Foothill Smog and Auto Repair provides great work at a reasonable price. They provide thorough estimates that break down the costs of work and repair to help you budget accordingly, which is quite a lifesaver in this dire economy.I happily recommend Foothill Smog & Auto Repair to all of my friends in the area. The reviews for this place are good for a reason, so don't be afraid to bring your automobile here.
How do you value an honest mechanic in Southern California? Priceless.Avo's been taking care of our cars for about three years now. He came recommended by a workmate who took the company's fleet to him for about five years before that. Since then I've recommended him to all of our friends without reservation. There have been plenty of times when we've sought advice from him, and he will always look for the safest, and the most cost effective way to fix a problem. Like other reviewers, more than once, he's recommended we do nothing and saved us thousands of dollars in needless repair costs recommended by dealerships. Most recently, for example, rather than plowing more money into our 2000 Taurus, he recommended we sell it before its resale value plummeted even further.Avo's associates are also knowledgeable and friendly and his shop is pristine.
I'm going to concur with everyone else. We took our 2005 Subaru to Avo for it's 30K service. I had been to the local Subaru dealership for a recall repair, and was put off by three things: (1) They managed to find $1000 worth of repairs, when I only inquired about a 30K service (2) while I was waiting for the recall repair, some of the slimier guys from the sales floor came into the waiting room to pitch to us, and (3) the repair took much longer than promised, and I left feeling lucky I'd gotten out of there w/o spending any money.By stark contrast, Avo put me at ease immediately. There was a total lack of nonsense, just a professionalism and easiness one rarely finds in ANY kind of service, much less in auto repair. What a pleasure. We got out of there for less than the dealer had wanted for the 30K service alone. And despite Avo's search with his diagnostics equipment, he did not "find" the $1000 worth of repairs the dealer wanted to do. I ASKED him to look for things, which he did, but the car is fine! Hoorah! When I retrieved the car, it was running perceptibly better, and we are very very pleased. I'm driving it 1000 miles in the next few days, and will know more then, but I have no worries. Our local Sub dealer could learn a thing or two from Foothill Smog and Auto Repair.
Avo truly is a great guy. He is hard working, honest and a great friend to the community. Let me tell a couple stories just to show how honest he really is:My wife was having troubles in her Maxima, and so took it to the dealer for repairs since it was due for normal maintenance. The dealer told her that it needed a new alternator, at around $400. We went to Avo for a second opinion. He agreed that it was the alternator but showed us a bulletin from the manufacturer- it was under recall. We went to a different dealer to have the work done for free. Avo could have charged us for that work, but he didn't- he was honest and it cost him money. I referred another friend of mine to Avo after the dealer had told him that his Subaru outback needed a new transmission. It had been giving some horrible squealing for the past few weeks. Once again, Avo pulled up a bulletin that indicated differently. Instead of replacing the transmission, they performed some minor maintenance and repair. Problem solved. Once again, a very expensive repair was avoided because of Avo's honesty. Avo makes use of email reminders and computerized records, so he always knows the latest on your car. He is also an avid soccer player who has taught kids for several years. He is a mild-mannered, well spoken, clean and courteous gentleman. And the same is true for the rest of the staff at his establishment. The only thing to be mindful of with Foothill is that they have very limited space at the garage. As a result, they really manage which cars are there and he will be very anxious to have you come pick up your vehicle as soon as the work is done. This doesn't mount to a criticism in my book, but it is worth keeping in mind when you make your plans. Bottom line, if you always dreamed of car repairs that don't include scamming, cheating mechanics, I can tell you that dreams DO come true.
It's so rare that you find a clean, honest, and friendly mechanic, but Avo is just that. No bull or games or nickel-and-diming. Just good, honest work. They do all kinds car repairs and I plan on continuing to take my car there for all of its repairs and adjustments.
