When my beloved Subaru (a car of a certain age) suffered a critical, heart-breaking rejection during its smog test, the test station told me I'd probably have to buy a new catalytic converter--around $1000 installed:  YIKES!!Luckily, I found Harry at Prestige Auto Service, who suggested some tests before replacing the converter, just to be sure I needed a new one.  His tests showed that while the converter was borderline, and would eventually need to be replaced, in a couple of years, it might pass the smog test if he just reset the engine light!   He recommended I drive it in a very specific way: 5 minutes at 55 mph over the weekend, which he told me would reset the Subaru's computer, and then take it in first thing Monday morning.  I followed his instructions and--thanks be to Freida, the goddess of internal combustion engines-- IT PASSED!!! (huge sigh of relief!)Harry is a genius!  Total cost for the tests, just $54!!   I'll be checking in with Harry next time my beloved Subaru needs attention.

When my Honda Accord was still under warranty, I always had it serviced at San Francisco Honda.  Every time SF Honda serviced it, without fail, the bill would be hundreds more than I was told to expect, even though it was under warranty.  Now, over the last year, I have been going to Prestige Auto.  I have dealt with both Thomas and Harry.  They are great guys and go great lengths to both be honest and making sure you are informed of everything.  They always show me the old broken parts they took out to let me know they really did what they said.  They don't need to do that really, because I completely trust them.  Repairs have always been done either the same day or next day-even when they have told me the shop is full.  I am so glad I have a relationship with these guys where they will always fit my car in.  Also, unlike San Francisco Honda, the last time I went in, Thomas quoted my repairs at $500.  When I picked it up, it only cost $460!!.  This would never happen at most places.  I spend less money on the car out of warranty at Prestige than when it was in warranty at SF Honda.  You all should go to Prestige Auto.  Great work, great people and fair prices.  My Honda now has 93,000 miles on it and Prestige has it running like it just came off the showroom floor.  Thanks a lot Thomas and Harry.

Finally a mechanic I trust in the city, with fair prices. They replaced all the brakes on my vintage Toyota FJ60 and was very happy with the prices. They are happy to work with authentic Toyota parts, just don't expect it to happen same day. I wholly vouch for and will be returning to them for any vehicle service I need in the future.

When my truck failed a smog test, I needed to find a Gold Shield Repair Station to fix it.  Thankfully, I found Prestige Auto Service.  They're conveniently located in SOMA with easy access to public transpo and cabs - great for when you have to leave your car for repairs.  Turn around was quick and the work superb.  I was kept well informed of what repairs were needed and my options explained.  Now my truck's California compliant and back on the road (although with gas prices the way they are, it's more parked on the road than actually driving on it).   The next time I need work done on my truck, Prestige will definitely be on my mind.   As a worthy note, my car's a Mitsubishi.  I've noticed most reviews were for Toyotas, however, Prestige's expertise goes well beyond one brand.

About five years ago my mechanic/ friend was moving out of state. At that point I had been driving my wife's '72 Beetle, but it had recently experienced a thrown rod on 880 which put a nice hole in the cylinder and left melted chunks of the piston inside the engine block. Nasty stuff. I asked Scruffy Andhi, my mechanic friend, what to buy next. Without him there to take of me, he decided that I needed a good strong reliable vehicle that would need a minimal amount of maintenance; Toyota Pickup.I found one the next day on craigslist. Still I would need to have a mechanic nurse it back to health when things would go wrong. I decided that I should find the right mechanic while things were going well, rather than wait for disaster to strike. So I took my '74 Toyota Pickup to AAA for a full diagnostic checkup and with the laundry list of items to fix I received from them I was off to find a mechanicIt was a stroke of luck that I found Prestige Auto right off. I showed them the report from AAA and we discussed which items were of priority. That first trip I had Thomas focus on the major safety issues. He had me in and out in a day. Reasonable labor fees and parts costs. Most importantly though, I had found a mechanic that I could talk to about what really needed to be done and what could wait for another time.On one of my trips, Thomas even recommended that I could take care of a particular problem myself. He gave me the parts numbers and sent me to the parts store with instructions on what to get and how to install it. Awesome! Oh, yeah and Harry is just as good. Either one of these guys will take proper care of you and your vehicle.
