Richard is an honest man who will fix your car even if hes backed up and has to stay late. He has fixed my car many times and always at a great price. If you want someone who you trust to fix your car hes the man to go to. Going to him is as if your going to family. Speaks great english so language is not an issue. If you have to wait for your car go grab a bite to eat at shakeys. We've been going to him for 10 years and will continue to do so.

Im only reviewing the smog place, I havent been to the repair shop. The one thing they have going for them is their smog machine is build INTO THE GROUND meaning when i drive my car into it i don't have to take off my bumper, which is awesome. So if you have a car that can't go up a ramp, there you are. other than that the guy's who works at the smog place are kind of DB's the guy was like...."yea it almost didn't pass?, meaning it did but he wanted to rub it in my face, and when i asked oh is there something i can do to help next time? he said its just because you modified your car, which was bogus because I've done nothing except for cosmetic mods to it or else he would have failed me haha.
So, I've been going Richard for about 3 years now and I have definitely had some great and honest service. I have an Acura and he so much cheaper than the dealership. Although his demeanor is somewhat rough and the way he talks to you is kind of off-putting (it's just something you have to get used to, he's a busy guy!), doesn't make his service any less quick, honest, and cheap. And regarding what Sofia L. said, what Richard gives is an estimate. Let me emphasize again, it's an ESTIMATE. He can't guarantee a specific total. Also the reason he probably gave you, and NOT your boyfriend a discount is that he likes you as a customer ($35 is the standard price of an oil change). As in the case of the rearview mirror, the reason it costs more is because of LABOR. Bring in your own parts fine, but it's the labor that's gonna cost you. And Sofia, obviously he's not a prick who's trying to make a quick buck if he's been in business for 20+ years. I'm just sayin'.*edit:To those who are unhappy with the service: Is it necessary to name call? Aren't we all adults? If you don't like the service, leave. And with any business/product, there is always a better price out there. So if you can find cheaper parts and cheaper service, that's good news for you. Bottom line: There's no need for name calling. Don't like the service? Go somewhere else...no one is forcing you to do you business there.
I bought a little nice Civic when I graduated from college over 6 years ago and for the first 30,000 miles, I had been taking my car into the dealership for maintenance, etc. When I hit 30,000 miles, my bill at the dealership was over $500 and I had enough. I decided due to reliability of these Japanese cars, I was just going to find a local mechanic which could serve my needs just as well. Enter San Gabriel Automotive Repair. For years and years, my Mom has been taking her cars to this place and swore by it. The first time I went there, I was shocked at the low prices (less than 20 bucks for an oil change). Through the years, I continued to visit this place. Richard the owner has always been really upfront with me. Even when I suggested certain things to be replaced he would always be up front with me and let me know if it REALLY was necessary or not. Another mechanic I felt would have just cared about the bottom dollar. Now my car is over 100,000 miles, and I think the total amount I spent on maintenance the last 70,000+ miles even with a break change and tire change, I spent less than the price of my maintenance at the dealership for the first 30,000.In times of crisis, Richard also met expectations. One time I got a nail in my tire and could feel it in the tires as I was driving home. I stopped by his place and got it fixed immediately. Another time, I stupidly broke off the driver's side mirror off my car and got it fixed within a day.Another thing you can ask Richard if you sustained any damage to your car is if he can just find an used part. That also saves you some money. Given all the horror stories we have all heard about car repair mechanics, this is a great place to come for honest service.
Went in on a monday morning and I was seen immediately. The technician and the cashier were very nice.$29.25 and 20 minutes later I was outta there- recommended for sangabrielinos :)
I've only been here a couple of times, which is why I am not giving 5 stars (yet).I took my accord here to get my belts changed.Actually, I brought my car here to get a squeak diagnosed. Richard listened to it and told me it was old accessory belts squeaking. He told me all I had to do was spray WD-40 on them and the squeak would go away, but that it won't go away forever. He demonstrated - a couple of sprays and voila! no more squeak.I asked him if I needed to change the belts since they are squeaky. He told me that it wasn't a pressing problem. He said that I could probably go another 10k miles before my timing belt needed to be replaced, and that if I don't really drive long distances, I should probably be okay for awhile.A little over a year later, I brought my car in to get all the belts changed. I really liked how he told me I didn't have to change anything when I had brought it in the first time for the diagnosis. I asked for Honda parts and I believe that's what he used. He also changed my oil, and gave me a Honda filter when I asked for one.The prices are reasonable, and from what I've seen, Richard is honest and trustworthy. I just brought my car here yesterday for a smog check. 29.25 out the door for the entire process! That's the cheapest I've seen for awhile (that includes the DMV electronic transfer fees). (It's only that price for 4 cylinders) Anyway, good place, and I'm glad to have a shop I can take my car to if I ever need something major done.
i've been going there for about 5 years now and i love the place. Richard which is the boss is a super friend guy and so is his wife. They are very real people and ethical when it comes to cars. love that place.
