I love Smog Queen! I showed up with my 1995 Honda Accord. Had a very short wait which was fine and friendly. I felt a little self conscious because I chose to keep my engine running but got no judgement from Thomas. Remember, it's a 1995 Honda Accord and I've got 260K+ miles on this workhorse of a car. I listened to the advice from people who know about cars and had an oil change, filled the tank with premium gas and drove it for about 30 minutes with a few of those on the freeway. Thomas greeted me with a friendly smile and assured me that my Honda would pass. I think he sort of got a kick out of seeing how many miles I had on this car. 15 minutes later, I did a happy dance, had the paperwork in my hand and was assured that my Honda would probably go another 40K miles if I continued to do whatever it was I had been doing. All for a mere $63. He also reminded me that AAA would be an easier place to pay my fee and get my stickers. How adorable is that?
Called to say that I was on my way and the guy on the phone said no worries see you when you get here. I pulled in soon after and he got started right away. I was able to stand off to the side and wait while he did the whole process. He worked fast and efficiently and even took the time to put air in all my tires which I appreciated. For those who think you need a waiting room or a coffee shop... it really only takes 15 minutes and the guy is super interesting to talk to. While he was doing my smog test 2 other customers came in needing a test. He was able to greet them, and finish up with me effortlessly with out looking overwhelmed or stressed.:) My car passed on the first try. I think it cost about $63 which is very reasonable. They also went above and beyond and diagnosed why my engine light had come on a few days earlier. Its like getting a free first opinion before I take it to my regular car shop.**So for those that are curious (and I know I was). If your renewal says you need to go to a 'test only' site it means that every 2 years the city tells you that you just need a smog test and nothing else. They send you to a 'test only' site so that there is no risk that a smog test and repair shop will add on extra charges that you dont need. For example when I got my last smog check the place offered me a 'tune up' for only $30 more. I thought this was a deal, but now I realized they were just trying to get more money out of me. Smog Queen will never do this...and they cant. They only do smog checks. For once I say thanks State of California for protecting us.
and again ... this is the 3rd time in a row i've taken my car to smog queen and probably won't take it anywhere else, unless they close up shop. fast, friendly and convenient. thanks, again smog queen!
Thomas was extremely friendly and was so appreciative for bringing our car to his shop! I have never seen anyone be so thankful and nice for doing business with them! I guess it should be like that everywhere, but we all know it isn't... The smog check was done in approximately 10 minutes. The cost was $63 including taxes and a 10% discount. We'll definitely go back for any future smog checks! This is the kind of business we want/need to keep around!!!
Smog Queen really wants you to pass your test, even if it means replacing a part (for free). I've been coming here for years (my car is now 25 years old) and have always been happy with their quick and friendly service.
I've used these guys for the last 2 smog check cycles. They take appointments, and keep them, and are really quick. I waited behind one other person each time, and was in and out of there in 20 minutes. Nice guys too.
Not much left to say that has not already been said about this exceptional test only station. I got there early and the wait was short. Go here for your smog test people :)
BEST smog check station in San Francisco. They're friendly. They're professional. They're efficient. They know their stuff inside and out. They keep their appointments. Their prices are posted, and they're reasonable. They have lots of Marilyn Monroe pictures (not essential for state-of-the-art smog testing, but it makes the wait so much more pleasant). I got in at 8 a.m. and I was out in less than 20 minutes. Thank you, Smog Queen* -- I will recommend you to all my friends.*Disclosure: no actual queens detected.
This is a great place to get your car smogged. I've been there four times and they were are all good experiences. It's easy to get to and they're generally very quick and easy to deal with. I'm in and out in 15 minutes. My only beef is that there really isn't a waiting area, but Martha's coffee shop is a short walk away at Mission.
Seriously. I had a great time spending my money here. It's too bad nowadays great service is the exception, not the rule. This is the type of service all businesses should strive to deliver. Courteous, respectful, efficient, personable, and friendly. As long as this place stays open with the same owners, it's where I'll always bring my 'Test Only' vehicles.
I once took a personality test that said that I value competence above all other virtues. It's totally true, and that's why I give Smog Queen 5 stars. Fast and informative, they got my smog passed quickly, and let me know about a couple of maintenance problems on my car as well. The place doesn't look pretty, and it's not that comfortable; it's a test only smog-check joint -- I got some work done in a nearby coffee shop during my test.
I didn't make an appointment, so it is probably my own fault. I waited and waited and waited mid-day on a Wednesday. After about 40 minutes, I got in. He asked if I was AAA (I am), got a discount. Super friendly, very speedy once it was my turn. Explained lights I might see on my car after I pulled away. Would be nice if there was a convenient place to sit and wait during the test. No matter though, I'm sure I will be back in 2 years if my girl is still on the road.
Had our car checked today. This is our 2nd time coming to the Smog Queen. We also came here back in 2008. Quick, friendly, efficient service! Price is very reasonable plus we got our AAA discount. Will come back again in 2 years.
Quick efficient service. Every two years I just come back to the same place. I trust them to do the job and transmit the Smog test results to DMV.
the guy that does the smog check awesome. he's super friendly. nice, easy to talk to, and does a great job. and he's fast and efficient and always smiles. if you need a smog check, go here.

I had originally scheduled an appt with a place on Fell Street near the GGPark panhandle. But after reading reviews online for this place that were so bad (not one good review at all) I wondered why I should go to a place where NOBODY had a good experience.... on the other hand, everything I have found online about the SMOG QUEEN has been nice, cheery and good. So this morning I called the other place and canceled (no problems but also no questions asked to WHY I canceled) and called SQ. I was told no appt needed so drove over there after picking up a free pastry on a SB offer, and went downtown. From Fisherman's Wharf to 10th and Minna (but located on one-way street closer to Mission on RIGHT side) it took me about 15mins in early-morning traffic. I was in thar and outa there in LESS time!! There was a white sedan there and in two minutes he finished up and had my car in there while I filled out the car data on the clipboarded form. With pastry in hand and a book, I barely had time to finish the blueberry muffin in his airy "lounge" area in the back, when I noticed him dropping the hood, then driving my car outa there!! WoW!! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO EAT A MUFFIN? That's how long it takes and HE is an one-man operation!! I paid with a credit card (he accepts AMEX - thank you!) and showed him my AAA card for a member discount! I cannot recommend him enough!! Cheery with a good attitude - and another car was already waiting to get checked!!
All the previous reviews dont lie! I definitely recommend them!
Smog Queen is great! I called up one morning, days before my registration was due. I was able to get in and out of there in about 30 min. They were quick efficient and friendly.I think I actually met THE Smog Queen. She was a friendly woman who had a strong resemblance to the woman in the sign. (they may have changed their sign and like all good matriarchs she has given way to another, younger Smog Queen) They also have good books to read while you wait. Fortunately you won't get too far into it before your car is done!
Five Stars, for a smog test station? You betcha...I was in/out in 10, and the Smog Queen herself offered me tea and cookies!
I got to go to this place just because it was very close to DPT center and the guy told me to go there to get my car from Pennsylvania checked - and I went to this place, passed! Well they tested my car twice and they were nice and friendly, I was so pleased by their service and one cigarette offered by the "smog-king" :)
They do TESTING ONLY! This means that they have NO incentive for you to fail. If you go somewhere that offers service/repair and you don't pass, they're conveniently there to "fix" it (is it a real problem or just a revenue source?). Smog Queen only tests your car, so if it doesn't pass, you know you have a real problem.Easy location. Woman-owned. I've brought two cars there in the past 60 days and had a straightforward experience. You can watch the testing taking place and they're nice - obviously you can get your test done just about anywhere, but why not do it at a friendly place? My two cars couldn't have been more disparate: a 1990 Honda Civic in rough shape and a brand new 2005 mini cooper. Both passed, and when I was there the second time, a nice old 1980 Honda Civic was being tested and it passed - again reinforcing the fact that they just run the test, with no incentive to cash in on the old BS: "Well, it IS an old car, so you'll need a new X or Y installed..."
This is a "test-only station", which was an attempt by the state of CA to make smog checks more reputable; but from my experience with other test-only stations...that effort has failed. Not so with Smog Queen. I paid over $30 less than I did at the other test-only station I went to, and even though it was lunchtime, it only took about 15 minutes and I was out of there (instead of the 45 minutes at the other place). It might be fancy equipment, or maybe it's just quality people; but I highly recommend Smog Queen to be in and out at a fair price.
Five stars 'cos I passed. No, really, they were fast and trustworthy. It's one of the places with the computer smog check. It was recommended to me by another shop. It's a WBE.
