Super friendly service, quick (20-30 mins), and reasonable ($50-55 - less than half the price of the Honda dealership). Do call for an appointment, although they will try to squeeze you in (8:30-5:30).They have a little table and chairs set up out front so you can get some sun, or grab some lunch around the corner at Cowboy Star while you wait. I've been here several times over the years, and wouldn't go anywhere else. Mary is so sweet and friendly; thanks and see you next time!

I have brought a total of five of my own vehicles here and three of my wife's. I have been here repeatedly. My experience has been consistent. Since 1986, I have been to a few other smog stations in San Diego and numerous others throughout California. 1. It is, in fact, run by a couple, Ray and Mary. As far as customer interface goes: Ray does the inspection, and Mary takes the calls and your money. 2. Ray hustles. Every time, every car, every day. If you wait, it will not be his fault. 3. Ray is competent and knowledgeable. If you fail your inspection, he will likely know what to do or, if not, he will have an excellent recommendation for someone to speak to. 4. Ray and Mary are honest. If you are hoping for a shop that will lie for you so that your vehicle will pass, this ain't it. 5. Ray and Mary both very friendly. If you can't have a pleasant conversation with these two, it is not their fault. 6. Ray and Mary both will go above and beyond. If you need a gas cap, and Ray has a spare one lying around, he just may give it to you. If you need a computer code for your check-engine light to be read, Mary will likely do it for you at no charge. Need a recommendation for something car related? Call them. 7. They are popular and very busy. It is better (though not absolutely necessary) to make a reservation.If a trip downtown is quick for you, and you must go to a "check only" station, then this is without a doubt the best option in San Diego.

I am so grateful for this place. I really needed to get a smog check because my tags were going to expire and I was leaving work and drove by this place. It was pretty late, after 6pm and I pulled in thinking there was no way they would be able to do a smog at that hour but the owner was so nice and said he could do it. He probably stayed open later than he wanted but still did the smog check.As far as the work goes, he was fast, efficient, and extremely friendly. It's refreshing to see that some places still have good customer service. I took a seat while he did the job and after checking some emails on my phone I was done. I definitely recommend this place. The owner is friendly and knows what he's doing. Also, he doesn't try and sell you on anything else (which I hate at other places). He just gets the job done quickly and gives you a smile and sends you on your way. I'll be going here from now on when I need a smog check and will recommend to others.Two thumbs up or I guess 5 stars!
Price is a couple of bucks more from other places, but it is well worth the money. They are SO NICE, the owner and his wife hooked me up, and made a smog check as interesting as it could possible be. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Really good and down to earth people, and honest business owners which are hard to find these days, especially in San Diego.Definitely recommended!
Great place. Convenient location if you work in the downtown area. They are quick and no frills (in and out in 20 minutes). Very friendly husband and wife. A little more expensive but they are honest and do great work. I've had bad experiences with OTHER places that have cheaper smog check prices. After you pass, they tell you all the things that are wrong with your car. They say, "Hey, not to worry you but I notice a real problem with your car..." Anyways, try "SMOG TEST ONLY" located on G street. You won't be disappointed. My check with certificate cost $54.95. I am going back for my other cars.
I've been here twice so far, service was great both times. Mary and Ray are great folks who provide fast service with a smile. Since they run a test-only facility, you know you won't get stuck with any unnecessary repair recommendations. Schedule your appointment in advance to avoid waiting in line. My bill came to $54.95, including certificate, and they had me in and out in about 20 minutes.
These peeps rock. Mary and Ray get you in and get you out and know how to test it and keep it movin for another 2 years....my 10 year old boxster could be a candidate for "cash for clunkers" but I'm good-to-go now.
I've brought 5 cars here over the years and the service has invariably been great. Also when a car failed they were extremely informative about what my options were. I'm confident that they know what they're doing and they seem like genuinely nice people. To me that kind of thing is worth paying a little more for.
