First and foremost, the actual name of this business is Viking Auto Repair & Smog Test. There used to be an Arco gas station here, but they took out the gas pumps several years ago and now their sole focus is auto repair and smog check services. Let's face it--for those of you who have older vehicles like me, you don't look forward to the biennial smog check, especially if you're not sure that your car will pass the test or not. But, I've come to accept it as one of those necessary evils to keep the air clean(er) here in the L.A. area. :-/ I've been coming to this place for a smog check for years with two different cars. I like coming here because the guy who heads this place is this tall Indian guy who's been there for what seems like the very beginning and he's really friendly. I only come here for the smog check, and this guy always tries to promote the other areas of this business, i.e., "You know we also do tune-ups and oil changes, not just the smog checks." I just nod, smile and give him my debit card each and every time. :-p The actual smog test takes about 15-20 minutes. This place has a small waiting room which, thankfully, is air conditioned, which was nice since it was a rather hot, unusually humid day when I went. I also discovered that they have a restroom next to the waiting room, even though the door does not have a sign on it indicating such. Thankfully, my car passed the smog test. Now I can pay my registration renewal and feel good that I did my part to keep our smoggy L.A. air cleaner! :-D
